Pink tee, mug, pet bandana, heart stickers, a crayon drawing and an envelope arranged into one big heart

Valentine’s Day print-on-demand sells best when you look past couples. Teachers and kids need something for class parties, nurses are on shift, best friends celebrate Galentine’s Day and pet owners shop for the dog, and each group wants a different design. Valentine’s Day 2027 falls on Sunday, February 14, so plan to have listings live in the first week of January and to tell US buyers to order by about January 29.

It’s late September, so treat this as the plan you’ll start in December, once your Christmas listings are live. It covers the 2027 timeline, who actually buys (with the National Retail Federation’s latest survey data), 50 original design ideas by buyer, the products and personalization that fit, and what to leave out.

Key takeaways

  • Valentine’s Day 2027 is a Sunday, so class parties will likely fall on Friday, February 12, and Galentine’s Day on Saturday the 13th. Plan deliveries for the 12th.
  • Have listings live in the first week of January and use an order-by date around January 29 for US standard shipping.
  • Couples are only part of the market: in NRF’s 2026 survey, 33% planned gifts for friends, 35% for pets and 27% for classmates or teachers.
  • Personalization (names, dates, class size or a child’s drawing) turns a generic heart into a gift.
  • Super Bowl LXI is also on February 14, 2027. Game-day valentine jokes can work, but never use league or event marks.

Valentine’s Day 2027 timeline

Two things make 2027 unusual. The 14th is a Sunday, which will likely push class parties and office celebrations to Friday the 12th. And Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for the same day, so some couples will spend Valentine’s evening in front of a football game. Here’s the working-back plan for US buyers:

WhenWhat to do
Early to mid-December 2026Design, once your Christmas listings are live, and order samples of your main products.
December 26 to January 8Publish. Aim to have everything live in the first week of January.
January 8 to January 29Your main selling window for standard shipping.
Friday, January 29Suggested order-by date for delivery by Friday, February 12.
February 1 to 9Fast options only, such as Printify Express Delivery on eligible tees (2–3 business days).
Friday, February 12Likely class-party and office-celebration day, and the last delivery day before the weekend.
Saturday, February 13Galentine’s Day.
Sunday, February 14Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl LXI.
Monday, February 15Presidents’ Day (no regular USPS delivery). Hide Valentine’s-only listings and move on to St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.

Order-by dates allow one day for order approval, up to five business days of production and up to four in transit. Check your print partner’s current production times in January.

The same method gives every date in our print-on-demand seasonal calendar. UK sellers have one more date close behind: Mothering Sunday is March 7, 2027, three weeks after Valentine’s Day, and our Mother’s Day print-on-demand ideas cover it.

Who buys Valentine’s Day designs

The National Retail Federation’s 2026 Valentine’s Day survey estimated record spending of $29.1 billion, and a big share of it went to people who aren’t partners:

planned gifts for friends ($2.4 billion)

35%

The same survey put Valentine’s Day spending on clothing at $3.5 billion. Because so much of the holiday reaches beyond partners, couples get only one of the five idea sections below. Here’s how the segments compare:

  5. Pharmacy hearts. Heart-shaped pills in an apothecary bottle.

More specialty angles are in our nurse shirt ideas.

Galentine’s, friendship and anti-Valentine ideas (29–41)

Galentine’s Day, a pop-culture holiday on February 13, gives friend groups their own occasion. When we searched the USPTO in September 2026, the live registrations we found for “Galentine’s Day” covered events and entertainment services, not clothing. That can change, so search your exact wording before you publish, and leave out quotes and characters from the TV show the day comes from.

  1. Galentine brunch. Three coffee cups clinking over a table of pastries.
  2. Best-friend halves. One heart split across two shirts or two mugs.
  3. Book club valentines. A heart made of book spines, for book clubs.
  4. Group chat hearts. Heart-shaped speech bubbles, personalized with the group’s name.
  5. Office valentines. A heart-shaped sticky note on a laptop, for work friends.
  6. Bubble-bath evening. A bubble bath, a face mask and a paperback, for people celebrating themselves.
  7. Friends since. Two small hearts and the year the friendship started.
  8. Hug at your own risk. A grumpy cactus holding a heart balloon.
  9. Single and snacking. A couch, a blanket and a heart-shaped pizza.
  10. Discount chocolate day. A cart of half-price candy on February 15, for people who celebrate the day after.
  11. Tired cupid. Cupid on a coffee break with his feet up.
  12. Dodged it. A heart stepping neatly out of the way of cupid’s arrow.
  13. Cat versus cupid. A cat knocking cupid’s arrow off a table.

Pet ideas (42–50)

In NRF’s survey, slightly more people planned Valentine’s gifts for pets (35%) than for friends (33%). Print-on-demand covers both halves of that: something for the pet and something for the owner about the pet.

  1. Breed valentine. One breed holding a heart, then a version for every popular breed.
  2. Heart-eyes dog. A dachshund, or any breed, in heart-shaped sunglasses.
  3. Heart bandana. A simple heart pattern on a pet bandana, with the pet’s name.
  4. Cat thief. A cat holding a heart it clearly stole from the table.
  5. Paw-print heart. A heart made of paw prints, for owners’ tees and mugs.
  6. Rescue love. An adopted pet wearing a heart-shaped tag, for adopters and volunteers.
  7. Owner and pet set. Matching heart designs on an owner tee and a pet bandana.
  8. Snowy dog walk. A person and a dog walking in the snow, with small hearts floating up.
  9. Hen valentines. Backyard hens in a heart-shaped nest, for chicken keepers.

Products and personalization that fit Valentine’s Day

  • Tees and sweatshirts. Mid-February is still sweatshirt weather in much of the US, so offer both for adult designs.
  • Mugs. They work for partners, coworkers and teachers alike. Our guide to print-on-demand mugs covers costs and design tips.
  • Stickers as add-ons, not class packs. POD stickers are priced per sticker, so a set for 25 kids gets expensive fast. See selling stickers on Etsy for the math.
  • Pet bandanas. A low-cost way to serve the 35% buying for pets.

Personalization is what makes a Valentine’s design a gift, and it no longer has to mean editing every order by hand. Printify’s automated personalization for Etsy lets buyers type text, pick from dropdowns or upload an image on the listing, then applies it to your design, and you still review each order before production. Printify notes that Etsy allows up to five personalization questions per listing, and that buyers’ HEIC and PDF uploads aren’t currently supported on its side, which matters for the child’s-drawing idea above. Our guide to personalized print-on-demand on Etsy covers setup and proofing.

What to leave out of Valentine’s designs

  • Candy brands. Brand names, wrappers and the exact look of branded conversation hearts. Draw your own candy.
  • Greeting-card and cartoon characters. Famous bears, dogs and cartoon couples belong to someone.
  • Love song lyrics and film quotes. They’re protected by copyright even when they’re short, and attribution isn’t permission. See our guide to song lyrics on shirts.
  • League and event marks. With the big game on the 14th it’s tempting, but don’t use the event name, team names or logos.
  • Short, common words. In our checks for this guide, several short Valentine’s words and phrases turned out to be registered clothing brands. Search everything in the USPTO Trademark Search system, and see our guide to avoiding trademark infringement.

Put a reminder in your calendar for early December: design your two strongest segments first, get them live in the first week of January, and use the January views to decide which designs deserve a second product.

Frequently asked questions

Do Valentine’s Day shirts sell on Etsy?
They can, especially designs made for a specific group: teachers and kids for class parties, nurses on shift, friends celebrating Galentine’s Day and pet owners. NRF’s 2026 survey estimated $3.5 billion of Valentine’s Day spending on clothing.
When is Galentine’s Day in 2027?
Galentine’s Day is February 13, which falls on a Saturday in 2027, the day before Valentine’s Day. For delivery before that weekend, US buyers should order by about January 29 with standard POD production and shipping.
What is the best print-on-demand product for Valentine’s Day?
There isn’t a single best one, but tees, sweatshirts and mugs are easy starting points, and pet bandanas cover the pet side of the holiday. Personalized versions with names, dates or a child’s drawing make the strongest gifts because buyers can’t find them anywhere else.
Can I use love song lyrics on Valentine’s shirts?
Not without a license. Song lyrics are protected by copyright even when they’re short, and crediting the artist doesn’t count as permission. Write your own lines instead.
What should I do with Valentine’s listings after February 14?
Deactivate the date-specific ones and keep year-round love, pet and friendship designs live. Etsy lets you reactivate a listing for free before it expires, and a renewed listing keeps its favorites, view count and web address.
