Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is November 30. For an Etsy print-on-demand shop, the winning plan is simple: have holiday listings live by early November, choose a discount your margin can survive, and keep every delivery promise inside the December shipping cut-offs.

This playbook gives you the 2026 dates, discount math on real POD costs, Etsy’s sale and promo code tools, what to know about Etsy’s Cyber Week event, a week-by-week prep timeline, and what to do if your margins can’t take a discount at all.

Key takeaways

  • Key 2026 dates: Thanksgiving Nov 26, Black Friday Nov 27, Small Business Saturday Nov 28, Cyber Monday Nov 30. Christmas falls on a Friday.
  • USPS recommends mailing by Dec 17 (Ground Advantage) or Dec 18 (Priority Mail) for delivery by Christmas in the lower 48. POD production time comes off the front of that.
  • A 25% discount cuts the illustrative $24.99 tee’s profit from $8.62 to about $2.96, and a $44.99 hoodie’s from $11.27 to about $1.09.
  • Etsy gives you four discount tools: sales, promo codes, discounted bundles and targeted offers. You join Etsy’s sales events by running a qualifying sale.
  • Never raise prices before a sale to fake a discount. Etsy prohibits it, and so do consumer laws in many places.

Etsy Black Friday 2026: the key dates

Thanksgiving falls on November 26 this year, late in its possible range of November 22–28, which leaves just 17 days between Cyber Monday and USPS’s recommended ground shipping date for Christmas. That’s why the prep has to happen in October.

2026 dates. USPS dates are its recommendations for the contiguous US; your print partner’s production time comes off the front of them.

USPS published its 2026 holiday shipping dates on September 22, 2026: December 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, December 18 for Priority Mail and December 19 for Priority Mail Express, for addresses in the lower 48 states. Your print partner chooses its own carrier and service, so treat these as outer limits rather than promises.

Does Etsy run a Black Friday sales event?

Yes. Etsy usually runs a site-wide Cyber Week event around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In 2025 it was called Cyber Specials and ran from November 24 to December 2, and sellers joined by scheduling a sale of at least 25% off. At the time of writing (late September 2026), Etsy hadn’t announced the details of its 2026 event.

Here’s how it works, based on Etsy’s help article on sales events:

  • You join from Shop Manager → Marketing → Sales and discounts → Join Etsy’s next sales event, by choosing a discount and the listings it applies to.
  • Your sale has to match the event’s criteria, usually a specific type of sale and discount, to qualify for Etsy’s sale features.
  • Participating shops may be featured in Etsy’s marketing and can be included in search results related to the sale. Etsy’s merchandising team looks for great photography, unique items, a well-told About section and a clear brand.
  • You can join after the event starts, and you can end your sale early, although Etsy encourages keeping it running for the whole event.

Etsy also runs Etsy-funded promotions from time to time: public coupon codes that Etsy pays for, usually for a set period such as a weekend. When a buyer uses one, you receive the full order amount and pay the same fees as usual. You don’t need to do anything to take part beyond using Etsy Payments, and Etsy tends to announce them in its forums and in Shop Manager.

Discount math: what a sale really does to POD profit

Your provider charges the same for the shirt and the postage whether you sell at full price or 25% off, so every dollar of discount comes straight out of your profit, softened only slightly by lower Etsy fees. Here’s the illustrative $24.99 tee from our Etsy fees guide ($8.80 product plus $4.75 shipping) at common discount levels:

DiscountSale priceEtsy feesProfitProfit if the sale came from a 15% Offsite Ad
None$24.99$2.82$8.62$4.87
10%$22.49$2.58$6.36$2.99
15%$21.24$2.47$5.22$2.03
20%$19.99$2.35$4.09$1.09
25%$18.74$2.23$2.96$0.15
30%$17.49$2.11$1.83−$0.79
40%$14.99$1.87−$0.43−$2.68

Illustrative US example with free shipping built into the price. Etsy fees are the $0.20 listing renewal, 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 processing, calculated on the discounted price.

At 25% off, the tee keeps about a third of its normal profit, and a sale that also came through an Offsite Ad earns you 15 cents. Each extra 5% off this tee costs about $1.13 of profit.

Heavier products are more fragile, because their costs take a bigger share of the price:

DiscountHoodie at $44.99: profitMug at $19.99: profit
None$11.27$5.14
10%$7.20$3.33
15%$5.15$2.43
20%$3.12$1.52
25%$1.09$0.62
30%−$0.95−$0.29

Illustrative costs: hoodie $20.50 plus $8.50 shipping, mug $5.50 plus $7.00 shipping. Standard US Etsy fees, no Offsite Ads.

A quick way to see your limit is the break-even discount, where profit hits zero. With these illustrative costs it’s about 38% for the $24.99 tee, 48% for the same tee priced at $29.99, and about 28% for both the hoodie and the mug. Plan your discount well inside that line, because some holiday sales will also carry an Offsite Ads fee. Our guide to pricing POD products shows how to set prices that leave room for promotions all year.

Etsy’s discount tools, and which to use for POD

Etsy offers four ways to discount at the time of writing, all under Shop Manager → Marketing → Sales and discounts:

ToolHow it worksBest POD use
SalePercentage off or free standard shipping for a set period, on chosen listings or shop-wide. Adding a minimum order to qualify makes it shop-wide.Your main Black Friday offer, and the way you join Etsy’s sales events
Promo codeA code buyers enter at checkout: 5–75% off, a fixed amount off or free standard shipping. You can cap total uses or allow one use per buyer.A reward for your email list or social followers, with a clear limit
Discounted bundleUp to three listings sold together for less. Buyers must buy all of them, and bundles don’t stack with other discounts.Matching sets, such as a tee, a mug and a tote for the same niche
Targeted offersAutomatic emails with a code for shoppers who abandoned a cart, favorited an item or showed interest, plus a thank-you offer after purchaseNudging holiday browsers who favorited but didn’t buy

Etsy’s tools at the time of writing. If several discounts apply to one listing, only the highest is used.

For POD, the smartest discounts raise the order value instead of cutting the price of a single item. Your fixed costs per order (the $0.25 processing fee and first-item shipping) are spread across more items, and extra items usually ship for less. Compare:

OfferBuyer paysYour profit
One tee, 20% off$19.99$4.09
Two tees, 20% off the order$39.98$10.68 ($5.34 per tee)
Two tees, full price$49.98$19.73

Illustrative: assumes $2.50 to ship the second tee, which varies by print partner, so check yours.

A shop-wide sale with a minimum order to qualify, or a discounted bundle of related designs, gets you this effect. Don’t inflate prices beforehand to make any of it look bigger: Etsy says you can’t artificially raise a price and then lower it to appear to be on sale, and the original price must have been in place for a substantial amount of time.

Two POD-specific checks are easy to forget. First, your provider charges your card as orders go into production, while Etsy pays out on its own schedule, so make sure your card limit can handle a busy weekend. Second, keep an order-review window: Printify’s default 24-hour approval delay gives you time to catch address and personalization errors before a peak-season order is printed.

Christmas cut-offs: work backward from delivery

POD adds production time in front of the carrier’s dates. Printify says most orders ship within 2–7 business days of being submitted, and production usually slows in peak season. Your last safe order date is the carrier’s recommended date, minus production time, minus any order-approval delay, minus a small buffer. Our Christmas planning guide works through the method, and Printify and Printful both publish holiday cut-offs by print partner or product each fall, so check them in October.

  • Standard shipping. USPS Ground Advantage’s December 17 date, minus five business days of production, a day for order approval and a two-day buffer, puts a last safe order date around Monday, December 7.
  • Faster shipping. Priority Mail’s December 18 date buys roughly a day. If your print partner offers a priority option, you can sell it as an upgrade for late shoppers.
  • Express. For US orders, Printify Express Delivery aims to produce and deliver eligible orders within two business days, which can rescue late shoppers. Check which products and partners qualify.

Then tell buyers clearly. Put your order-by date in your shop announcement and the first lines of each holiday listing, and make sure your Etsy processing times match your print partner’s peak-season times. A clear deadline costs you a few late orders; a gift that arrives on December 28 costs you a review. Our guide to Etsy shipping profiles for POD shows how to set holiday processing times, and our Etsy reviews guide has a delay message you can send before buyers ask.

Get your holiday line live before the rush

POD Made Easy turns holiday ideas into print-ready designs with spell-checked text, writes buyer-first titles, tags and descriptions, and creates the products in your own Printify shop, so your listings have weeks to collect views and favorites before Black Friday.

What if your margins can’t take a discount?

You don’t have to join the discount race. Plenty of holiday shoppers search for a specific gift rather than a percentage off, and your listings still show in normal search if you skip Etsy’s event. Options that protect your margin:

  • Raise the order, not the discount. A modest discount on bundles or on orders above a minimum spreads your fixed costs, as the table above shows.
  • Sell personalization at full price. Names, years and places make a gift feel made for the recipient, and buyers expect to pay for that. Our guide to personalized print-on-demand covers the workflow.
  • Launch something new. A 2026-dated family design or a fresh niche earns attention without a discount.
  • Make free shipping the offer, if you normally charge for it. If your prices already include shipping, this lever is already pulled.
  • Bring your own traffic. Share & Save credits back 4% of eligible orders from links you share, which can offset a small discount. Our Pinterest plan keeps promotion to a short weekly routine.
  • Be careful with ads. Discounted sales leave little room for ad costs; our Etsy Ads math shows how quickly they turn negative.
Kraft-wrapped gifts with blank tags and pine sprigs around a folded cream sweatshirt with a red snowflake motif
Gift-ready matching products raise order value without deeper discounts.

Black Friday mistakes that cost POD sellers

  • Faking a discount. Raising prices in October to “discount” them in November breaks Etsy’s rules. For EU buyers, the prior price shown in a discount generally has to be the lowest price you charged in the 30 days before it.
  • Discounting hoodies like tees. At 25% off, the illustrative hoodie keeps about $1. Set discounts per product rather than shop-wide out of habit.
  • Forgetting Offsite Ads. A discounted sale that arrives through an Offsite Ad can lose money.
  • Listing too late. Designs published in December have days, not weeks, to find buyers.
  • Promising delivery you can’t control. Processing times that ignore peak-season production turn into late gifts and poor reviews.
  • Going quiet in Messages. Holiday buyers ask about delivery dates and sizing, and slow replies lose sales and pull down your response rate.

Frequently asked questions

When does Etsy’s Black Friday sale start?
Etsy sets its event dates each year. In 2025, its Cyber Specials event ran from November 24 to December 2. Look for the 2026 event under Marketing → Sales and discounts, where Etsy lists its next sales event; you can usually join even after it starts.
Do I have to join Etsy’s Cyber Week sales event?
No, it’s optional. Joining means running a sale that meets Etsy’s criteria, which can get your shop into Etsy’s sale marketing and sale-related search results. If the required discount would wipe out your margin, skip it; your listings still appear in normal search.
Does Etsy pay for Black Friday discounts?
Your own sales and promo codes come out of your revenue. Etsy occasionally runs Etsy-funded coupons, which it pays for: you receive the full order amount and pay the same fees as you would without the coupon.
Can I raise my prices before a Black Friday sale?
No. Etsy says you can’t artificially increase a price and then lower it to look like a sale, and the original price must have been in place for a substantial time. For EU buyers, a discount generally has to be measured from your lowest price in the previous 30 days.
What should I do if my margins are too thin to discount?
Skip the big percentage off and use other levers: bundles or a minimum-order discount that raises the order value, personalized items at full price, fresh holiday designs, clear order-by dates and Share & Save links for the traffic you bring yourself.
