• Canvas keeps the most per sale. Even after its higher shipping, the canvas in our example earns about twice the 18 × 24 poster, which makes it a good upgrade for designs that already sell. Check that similar canvases in your niche sell near that price before you count on it.
• Framed prints are expensive to make. The 12 × 16 framed poster costs about $51 delivered, so a 15% Offsite Ads fee takes more than half of the profit.
• Big posters cost more to ship. The 24 × 36 poster ships for $10.89 against $6.99 for smaller sizes, so even priced $10 higher, it earns about the same as the 18 × 24 in our table.

Sizes and ratios to offer

Build each listing around one aspect ratio, so every size variant shows the full design. The two most useful US families are 2:3 (12 × 18, 16 × 24, 24 × 36) and 3:4 (12 × 16, 18 × 24). Gelato suggests 30 × 40 cm, 50 × 70 cm and 70 × 100 cm for international sales, because they match widely available frames and keep the same ratio as 12 × 16, 20 × 28 and 28 × 40 inches.

Then check your pixels. At 300 DPI a 24 × 36 poster needs 7200 × 10800 pixels; around 150 DPI (3600 × 5400) is usually acceptable at that size, but a typical AI image falls well short of either. Licensing: what you can and can’t turn into wall art

Wall art is where POD sellers most often print something they don’t have the rights to. The main traps (general information, not legal advice):

• Maps. OpenStreetMap data may be used commercially if you credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors and make clear the data is under the Open Database License, as its copyright page explains. Google’s geo guidelines list consumer goods such as posters, mugs and t-shirts as a prohibited use of Google Maps and Google Earth imagery.
• Stock images. Many stock licenses don’t cover products for resale. Adobe Stock’s Standard license, for example, excludes merchandise where the asset is the main value of the product; that use needs an Extended license, according to its license terms.
• Photos. Your own photos are the safest source, but people, private property, and artwork or logos that appear in a shot can raise their own rights issues.

Mockups and listing details that sell prints

• Honest framing. If the listing is a poster, don’t make the first photo look like a framed product without saying “frame not included.” Mismatched expectations turn into returns and reviews.
• Paper and finish. Name the paper (matte, semi-gloss, archival, fine art) and its weight, as your provider lists it.
• Packaging. Say whether prints arrive flat or rolled, and that framed pieces may need assembly if your provider ships them unmounted.
