Gelato Print-on-Demand Review (2026): Is It Good for Etsy?
Gelato print-on-demand review for 2026: local production in 32 countries, Gelato+ pricing, Etsy and TikTok integrations, wall art quality, pros and cons.
By the POD Made Easy team · September 24, 2026 · 9 min read

Gelato is a good print-on-demand choice for Etsy sellers with a lot of buyers outside the US, and for shops built around wall art. It routes each order to a print partner near the buyer, in 32 countries at the time of writing, so parcels travel shorter distances. It’s a weaker fit if you want to pick exactly who prints your products or you compete on the lowest possible US apparel price.
This Gelato print-on-demand review covers how the local network works, what the free plan and Gelato+ cost, which stores it connects to, where its wall art stands out, and the delivery, quality and returns details that decide whether buyers leave happy. Everything is as of September 2026.
Key takeaways
- Gelato sends each order to a production partner close to the buyer, across 32 countries, which shortens international delivery.
- The free plan covers most sellers (up to two stores); Gelato+ costs $29.99 a month or $19.99 a month billed yearly for up to 33% off products and extra tools.
- It connects to Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, BigCommerce and TikTok Shop; Amazon is a US-only beta for selected merchants.
- Wall art is its strongest category: posters in several papers, framed posters and canvas, printed locally in many markets.
- You can’t choose the production country, and quality can vary between partners, so sample in the markets where most of your buyers live.

How Gelato works
Gelato works through partners. Its software connects your store to a network of production partners in 32 countries, and it delivers to more than 200. When an order comes in, Gelato’s algorithm chooses where to make it based on the delivery address, product availability, network capacity and what each partner can print. In most cases, that’s the partner closest to your customer.
So a poster ordered from Germany can be printed in Europe, and the same poster ordered from Australia can be printed closer to Australia, as long as a local partner offers it. Gelato says the large majority of its orders (90% or more, by its own figures) are produced locally.

You pay Gelato for the product and shipping when you order (or when a store order comes in). Gelato doesn’t take a commission on your sale. It bills in several currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP and JPY, supports a pre-funded wallet with auto top-up, and shows VAT or tax at checkout where it applies.

From Gelato’s subscription page and Help Center, September 2026. Tool availability depends on plan and product. UK prices are £24.99 a month or £16.66 a month billed yearly; local taxes are added in the US and Norway.
A few pricing details worth knowing. Branded packaging inserts and labels (available for posters) start at $0.49 each. Gelato runs sample discounts at different times of the year, applied to the product price only, and at the time of writing new sellers get 30% off their first order (capped at €50). Gelato+ also runs limited-time promotions, such as free standard shipping for 30 days, so check the current offer and its terms.
The monthly-versus-yearly gap is large: the yearly plan saves $120 a year. The exact figures in every currency are in Gelato’s Gelato+ pricing article.
Is Gelato+ worth it?
Treat Gelato+ like any provider discount plan: it’s worth it when the savings on what you actually sell beat the fee. Because discounts vary by product and market, check the Gelato+ price of your top three products before you subscribe.
As an illustrative example, say Gelato+ saves you $2.00 per poster. The yearly plan ($19.99 a month) pays for itself at 10 posters a month, and the monthly plan ($29.99) at 15. If it saves $4.00 on a framed poster, those numbers roughly halve.
| Saving per item (illustrative) | Break-even on yearly billing | Break-even on monthly billing |
|---|---|---|
| $1.00 | 20 items a month | 30 items a month |
| $2.00 | 10 items a month | 15 items a month |
| $4.00 | 5 items a month | 8 items a month |
Break-even = monthly fee ÷ saving per item, rounded up. Illustrative savings; check the Gelato+ prices shown in your dashboard.
The tools can tip the decision. If you sell personalized products, Personalization Studio (listed among the Gelato+ tools) adds customer fields such as text, dates and photos to Etsy or Shopify listings and generates the print file when the order arrives, which saves real time per order. If you only sell a handful of unpersonalized posters a month, stay on the free plan.
Etsy, TikTok Shop and other integrations
Gelato has direct integrations with Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace and BigCommerce, plus TikTok Shop for US and UK sellers. Its Amazon integration is a beta for selected merchants and works in the US only, so don’t plan an Amazon launch around it yet. For other platforms you can use Order Desk, the API, manual orders or a CSV import.
How the Etsy integration works in practice:
- Publishing: you create products in Gelato’s dashboard (variants, mockups and prices), then add them to Etsy. They’re saved as drafts first, so you don’t pay Etsy’s $0.20 listing fee until you publish.
- Existing listings: you can connect individual Etsy listings to Gelato products, or move many at once. Gelato’s Velocity Switch tool maps existing Etsy or Shopify products to its catalog.
- Orders: orders import automatically and go to the nearest suitable partner, and tracking flows back to Etsy.
- Production partner: add “Gelato” in Shop Manager under Settings → Partners you work with (formerly “Production partners”) and assign it to each Gelato listing. Our guide to Etsy production partners covers the steps.
Wall art: Gelato’s strongest category
Gelato’s catalog covers apparel, mugs, cards, calendars, phone cases and more, but wall art is where it stands out. Posters come in several papers (classic matte, classic semi-gloss and fine art paper among them), with framed, ready-to-hang options and canvas. Local production matters most here, because large, rigid parcels are exactly the ones that get slow and expensive when they cross oceans.
Three things decide whether wall art sells and arrives looking right:
- Aspect ratio. Design at the ratio of the size family you sell (2:3, 3:4 or ISO A sizes), or your artwork gets cropped. Our poster print size cheat sheet has the pixel tables.
- Resolution. Large posters need big files. Keep text and key details inside Gelato’s safe area.
- Paper choice. Order samples of matte and semi-gloss before you commit a collection; the same artwork can feel very different on each.

Delivery, quality and returns
Delivery. Gelato says typical delivery in its key markets (the US, UK and EU) is 2–5 days, and that 90% of orders arrive within 5 days of ordering. Its own shipping calculator shows, for example, 3–4 days on economy shipping for a ready-to-hang wall art order to the UK. Always check live estimates for your product and destination at checkout, and set your Etsy delivery times from those, not from the best case.
Quality. Gelato applies one quality standard across its network, but different partners run different machines, and Gelato’s own policy says color variations within normal tolerance aren’t covered. If most of your buyers are in two or three countries, get samples delivered there. A friend or family member abroad is the cheapest quality-control team you’ll find.
Returns and problems. If a product arrives damaged, defective or wrong, contact Gelato within 30 days of receiving it. If its quality team validates the claim, it sends a free replacement to your customer, or refunds you if a replacement doesn’t make sense. Gelato doesn’t accept returns or provide a return address, and lost parcels must be reported within 30 days of the estimated delivery date. Our guide to print-on-demand returns and misprints shows how to set an Etsy return policy that fits.

- Good fit: shops with many buyers in Europe, the UK, Canada or Australia; wall art and poster shops; sellers who want personalized products with automated print files (a Gelato+ tool).
- Also a good fit: UK and EU sellers who want production close to home. Our guide to print-on-demand in the UK compares local options.
- Think twice: US-focused apparel shops chasing the lowest unit price, and sellers who want to hand-pick the exact print shop for every product.

Frequently asked questions
- Does Gelato charge a monthly fee?
- No. Gelato’s free plan has no monthly fee and lets you connect up to two stores. Gelato+ is optional at $29.99 a month, or $19.99 a month billed yearly, as of September 2026.
- Can I choose which country Gelato prints my order in?
- No. Gelato’s system picks the production location from the delivery address, product availability, network capacity and partner capabilities. In most cases it chooses the print partner closest to your customer.
- Does Gelato accept returns?
- Not for change-of-mind returns, and it doesn’t provide a return address. If an item arrives damaged or defective, report it within 30 days of receiving it. If Gelato validates the claim, it sends a free replacement or refunds you.
- Is Gelato cheaper than Printify?
- It depends on the product and where your buyers live. Compare the delivered cost (product plus shipping) of your top products to your top buyer countries. Gelato’s local production can win on international orders, while Printify’s cheapest partners are often lower for US apparel.
- What should I list as the production partner for Gelato on Etsy?
- Add “Gelato” as a production partner in Shop Manager under Settings → Partners you work with (formerly “Production partners”). Gelato’s help center suggests Oslo, Norway, its headquarters, as the location, and each Gelato-made listing should be assigned to that partner.
