Printify vs Gelato (2026): Etsy, UK and International Sales

Printify vs Gelato for Etsy sellers in 2026: plans, delivery speed, wall art, integrations and UK buyers, plus a decision table to pick the right provider fast.

Two parcels heading to one house, one on a long route across an ocean, the other on a short hop from a nearby workshop

Choose Printify if most of your buyers are in the US and you sell apparel and other basics on tight margins. Choose Gelato if a big share of your orders ship abroad or wall art is central to your shop, because Gelato prints each order close to the buyer. Plenty of sellers use both: Printify for US basics, Gelato for international orders and prints.

This Printify vs Gelato comparison is built around that one question (where your buyers live), then covers plans, delivery, wall art, integrations and the UK angle, and ends with a decision table and a two-week test. For Printful in the mix too, see our three-way provider comparison or the Printify vs Printful head-to-head. Prices are as of September 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Printify lets you pick the print partner for each product; Gelato routes each order to a production partner near the buyer, in 32 countries.
  • For a US-heavy Etsy shop selling basics, Printify’s partner choice usually gives the most control over cost.
  • For international buyers and wall art, Gelato’s local production can mean shorter, cheaper shipping.
  • Paid plans: Printify Premium is $24.99/mo billed yearly ($39 monthly); Gelato+ is $19.99/mo billed yearly ($29.99 monthly).
  • UK sellers should compare Gelato’s UK production with Printify’s UK and EU partners, and Prodigi for premium prints.

The core difference: you pick the printer, or Gelato does

Printify is a marketplace. Its pricing page lists 90+ print partners and 1,300+ customizable products, and for each product you choose which partner makes it. That partner makes every order for that product, wherever the buyer lives. You get control over cost, speed and quality, and the job of choosing well.

Gelato is a routing network. You create a product once, and Gelato sends each order to a production partner near the buyer, in 32 countries at the time of writing. A poster sold to a buyer in Germany can be printed in Europe, and the same poster sold to a buyer in Australia can be printed closer to them, as long as a local partner makes that product.

Neither model is better in general. Printify’s is better when your buyers cluster in one country. Gelato’s is better when they don’t.

Where are your buyers? The question that decides it

Before comparing anything else, look at the shipping addresses on your last 50 orders (or, if you’re new, at where buyers of similar products live). Then use this rule of thumb:

Your ordersStart withWhy
Almost all in the USPrintify, with a US partnerLow base costs and a wide choice of US partners
Mostly US, some Canada, UK, EU, AustraliaPrintify for US basics, Gelato for products that sell abroadKeep US margins, shorten delivery for the rest
A large share outside your home countryGelatoLocal production for each order, wherever it ships
You’re in the UK or EU, selling at homeCompare both on your top productsBoth have local production; prices decide it

A rule of thumb, not a law. Order samples to the countries you sell to most before you commit.

Why it matters: on Printify, an international order ships from your chosen partner’s country, so a US-printed hoodie going to Australia travels a long way, slowly and expensively. On Gelato, the same order can be made much closer to the buyer, if that product is produced locally there. Gelato’s catalog shows which products are made in which countries, so check your best sellers specifically.

Plans and prices: Printify Premium vs Gelato+

Both are free to start and charge per order. The paid plans trade a monthly fee for discounts and extras:

Current numbers are on Gelato’s subscription plans page and Printify’s pricing page. The break-even math is the same for both: divide the monthly fee by what the plan saves you per order. If Gelato+ saved an illustrative $2.00 per order, the yearly plan ($19.99 a month) would pay off at about 10 orders a month. If Premium saved $1.76 per tee (20% of an $8.80 tee), its yearly plan would pay off at about 15 tees a month. Below those volumes, free plans plus a few samples are the better use of money.

One practical limit: Gelato’s free plan allows two connected stores, and Printify’s allows five. If you run Etsy, Shopify and TikTok Shop from one provider account, that alone can push you to a paid plan on Gelato.

Delivery speed and shipping costs

Gelato’s own figures, at the time of writing, are that 90% of orders are produced locally and 90% arrive within five days of ordering. Treat those as Gelato’s averages across its network, not a promise for every product and country.

On Printify, delivery depends on the partner you pick: its production time plus transit from its location. For US buyers served by a US partner, that’s usually fine. For international buyers, it’s often the weak spot. Printify Choice can pick a partner for each order automatically, but it’s built around US buyers.

Whichever you use, set your Etsy processing time and delivery estimates to match reality, and keep them honest, because late parcels cost more in reviews than a slightly longer estimate costs in sales. Our guide to Etsy shipping profiles for POD shows how to build profiles for several providers and destinations.

Wall art, apparel and the rest of the catalog

Wall art is Gelato’s home turf. Posters, framed prints, canvas, cards and calendars are core products, and Gelato offers branded labels and packaging inserts for posters. If prints are the heart of your shop, Gelato deserves a sample order even if you use Printify for everything else.

Apparel breadth is Printify’s. With many partners, you’ll usually find more blanks, colors and price points, and you can pick a partner per product for cost or speed.

For premium fine-art prints, especially for UK and EU buyers, also look at Prodigi (our Prodigi review covers it), and our print-on-demand wall art guide compares products, sizes and margins. Big prints are unforgiving: a file that looks sharp on screen can print soft at 24 × 36 inches.

Etsy, TikTok Shop and other integrations

Both connect to Etsy, publish listings and import orders. Beyond that, coverage differs:

  • Printify publishes to 11 sales channels, including Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, eBay US, TikTok Shop US and Amazon US. Its TikTok Shop integration is for US sellers shipping to US buyers from US partners.
  • Gelato connects to Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, TikTok Shop, Wix, Squarespace and BigCommerce, with Amazon in beta at the time of writing. On TikTok Shop it supports non-personalized products.
  • Personalization: Printify’s free personalization tool adds live previews and personalization fields to Etsy listings. Gelato’s Personalization Studio is part of Gelato+.

With either provider, add it as a production partner in Etsy’s settings, and make listing edits in the provider’s dashboard so the sync doesn’t break. If you’re selling beyond Etsy, our TikTok Shop print-on-demand guide covers that channel in detail.

Printify vs Gelato for UK sellers

UK sellers have a different problem from US sellers: buyers are often split between the UK, the US and Europe, and each has its own shipping costs and rules.

  • UK buyers: Gelato can print many products in the UK. On Printify, use the catalog’s location filters to choose a UK partner for products you sell mostly at home.
  • US buyers: print US orders in the US. Both providers can, and US import rules for small parcels have tightened since 2025, so shipping UK-printed items to US buyers adds cost and delay.
  • EU buyers: products sold into the EU fall under the General Product Safety Regulation (see our GPSR guide for POD sellers), and local production in the EU simplifies delivery.
  • Etsy fees: UK sellers pay 4% + £0.20 payment processing, a regulatory operating fee and VAT on Etsy’s fees at the time of writing, so price with those in mind.

How to test Printify and Gelato in two weeks

  1. Pick your two best-selling (or most promising) products, such as a tee and a poster.
  2. Create each one on both providers with the same design, exported at each provider’s exact print size.
  3. Price both for your top three destination countries, including shipping and Etsy fees.
  4. Order samples to your own address, and to a friend in your biggest overseas market if you can.
  5. Compare print quality, color, packaging and door-to-door time, then keep the winner per product.

The tedious part is step 2: every provider has its own print areas and templates, so one design becomes several exports and several product setups before you’ve sold anything.

Test two providers without doing the work twice

POD Made Easy makes each design print-ready at the exact pixel size for the product you choose, then creates it in your own Printify shop or publishes it from your Gelato templates to your connected store, with an Etsy-ready title, tags and description. You keep your provider accounts and prices.

The bottom line: Printify for control and low costs when your buyers are mostly in one country, Gelato for local production when they aren’t, and both side by side when your shop has one of each. Frequently asked questions

Is Gelato cheaper than Printify?
It depends on the product and where it ships. Printify’s partners compete on price, which often makes US basics cheap, while Gelato’s local production can cut shipping on international orders. Price your top products for your top three destination countries in both catalogs before deciding.
Can I use Printify and Gelato in the same Etsy shop?
Yes. Each connects to your Etsy shop separately and manages the listings it creates. Keep every listing linked to one provider and add both as production partners in your Etsy settings.
How much does Gelato+ cost?
At the time of writing, Gelato’s US site lists Gelato+ at $29.99 a month, or $19.99 a month billed yearly, with up to 33% off products and unlimited connected stores. The free plan allows two connected stores.
Does Printify ship internationally?
Yes. Each order ships from the print partner you chose for that product, so international delivery time and cost depend on where that partner is. Choosing a partner near your main market keeps both down.
Is Gelato good for Etsy sellers in the UK?
It’s a strong option, because UK orders can be printed in the UK and buyers elsewhere can be served by partners closer to them. Compare it with Printify’s UK and EU partners and with Prodigi for premium wall art.
